Antineoplastons Overview

Antineoplastons are peptide fractions initially observed to be absent in cancer patients' urine, leading to the hypothesis of their potential antitumor properties. They consist of peptides, amino acid derivatives, and organic acids, initially isolated from healthy individuals but now produced synthetically. These compounds have broad-spectrum or narrow-spectrum activity against different cell lines. While animal studies suggest potential anticancer effects, such as reducing tumor numbers and increasing survival rates, there is no high-quality clinical evidence supporting their effectiveness. Proposed mechanisms include inducing cell differentiation, inhibiting oncogene expression, and inhibiting cell proliferation, but more research is needed to validate these mechanisms and their clinical relevance.
