Coca Overview
Coca (Erythroxylum coca) is a plant that is native to South America and is best known as the source of the psychoactive alkaloid cocaine. In traditional medicine, the leaves of the coca plant have been used to treat a variety of conditions, including altitude sickness, fatigue, and hunger. Decocainized coca extract is sometimes used in dietary supplements, but is more commonly used as a flavoring agent in foods and drinks.
