European Five-finger Grass Overview

European Five-finger Grass Potentilla reptans, also known as creeping cinquefoil, creeping tormentil, and European five-finger grass (a name derived from its characteristic five-petaled flowers and creeping growth habit), is a perennial herbaceous plant found in Europe, Asia, and North America. It is recognized for its traditional uses in herbal medicine, where it has been used to treat conditions such as diarrhea, sore throat, and skin issues. The plant contains bioactive compounds like tannins, flavonoids, kaempferol, rutin, quercetin, diglucuronide, luteolin-7-glucoside, apigenin-7-glucoside, ellagic acid, p-coumaric acid, caffeic acid, chinic acid, and ferulic acid, which are all believed to contribute to its potential health benefits. It has purported anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties; however, further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms of action and to establish its safety and efficacy.
