Adrafinil Adrafinil is a precursor to the prescription drug modafinil, which is used to promote wakefulness in narcolepsy. It is found in some nootropic dietary supplements. Adrafinil is thought to have mechanisms of action similar to modafinil, which increases levels of dopamine, histamine, glutamate, noradrenaline, and serotonin in specific areas of the brain. Additionally, modafinil reduces levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
