Arum, a genus of flowering plants native to Europe and North America, has a long history of traditional medicinal use, particularly for its root. This root has been valued for its diaphoretic and expectorant properties. The root of arum contains several compounds, including lectin, agglutinin, N-acetyllactosamine-specific lectin, glucomannan, oxalate crystals, and trace amounts of cyanogenic glycosides.
