Devil's Claw Devil's claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is a plant native to southern Africa and a member of the Pedaliaceae family. The plant has large, lobed leaves and produces small, purple flowers. It gets its name from the small, hard, black seeds that are contained within the plant's fruit, which are shaped like small claws or hooks. In traditional medicine, devil's claw is purported to have anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-relieving) properties. It has been used to treat a variety of health conditions, including arthritis, joint pain, and lower back pain.
