Marsh Blazing Star Orally, marsh blazing star is a tall, upright perennial plant belonging to the aster family, which blooms in summer. It is known for its rounded, fluffy, deep purple flower heads that resemble 'blazing stars'. Medicinally, the applicable part of marsh blazing star is the root, which contains coumarin, as well as several other active constituents. Marsh blazing star has traditionally been used for kidney disorders, dysmenorrhea, gonorrhea, and as a diuretic.
