Salacia Salacia reticulata, also known as Indian sarsaparilla or Salacia chinensis, is a species of flowering plant in the family Celastraceae. It is native to tropical regions of Asia, including India, China, and Thailand. In Ayurvedic medicine, Salacia reticulata is believed to have anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and laxative effects. It is also used as a natural remedy to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Dietary supplements containing Salacia reticulata typically utilize the root. There are also patented forms of Salacia reticulata, such as Salaretin, which is a standardized extract containing specific amounts of two constituents of the plant, mangiferin and salacinol.
