Sweet clover is a tall, herbaceous plant with yellow flowers that belongs to the pea family (Fabaceae). There are two main species of sweet clover: Melilotus albus, which is white sweet clover, and Melilotus officinalis, which is yellow sweet clover. Sweet clover is purported to have a number of medicinal properties and has been used traditionally to treat a variety of ailments, such as respiratory problems and skin conditions. It has also been used as a phlebotonic (drug that modifies the tone of vein walls) and an antithrombotic.
