Hydroxymethylbutyrate (hmb) Overview

Hydroxymethylbutyrate (HMB) is a compound derived from the amino acid leucine and its ketoacid, alpha-ketoisocaproate. It is present in small amounts in grapefruit, alfalfa, and catfish. Additionally, HMB is naturally produced in the human body. The muscle and liver are responsible for producing HMB internally, and it is thought to play a role in muscle protein synthesis.
