Potentiation of impaired cognitive function and motor skills and an increased risk of respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, and syncope


Interaction Summary

Concomitant use of loxapine and other CNS depressants may potentiate impaired cognitive function and motor skills and increase the risk of respiratory depression, hypotension, profound sedation, and syncope. This includes alcohol, opioid analgesics, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants, general anesthetics, phenothiazines, sedative/hypnotics, muscle relaxants, and illicit CNS depressants. If coadministration if necessary, consider a dose reduction of the CNS depressant[1] and use with caution, especially during the first few days of therapy [2].

How To Manage Interaction

Baclofen Overview

  • Baclofen is used to treat pain and certain types of spasticity (muscle stiffness and tightness) from multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, or other spinal cord diseases. Baclofen is in a class of medications called skeletal muscle relaxants. Baclofen acts on the spinal cord nerves and decreases the number and severity of muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis or spinal cord conditions. It also relieves pain and improves muscle movement.
