Huperzine A Overview
Huperzine A is a chemical compound extracted from the Chinese herb Huperzia serrata (toothed clubmoss). It is a type of acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is involved in a variety of processes, including learning and memory. Based on this mechanism of action, Huperzine A is sometimes marketed as a dietary supplement, with claims that it can improve cognitive function and treat conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
