Here's the thing with tree turmeric and your cyclosporine: this supplement is rich in berberine, and good-quality human studies show berberine slows down an enzyme (CYP3A4) that your body uses to clear cyclosporine. When that cleanup slows, cyclosporine builds up in your blood. Since cyclosporine is a narrow-therapeutic-index drug, even small jumps in its level matter a lot.

Higher cyclosporine levels can mean more side effects like kidney strain, high blood pressure, tremors, headaches, or gum overgrowth. This is a well-documented, likely interaction, so I'd steer clear of tree turmeric supplements while you're on cyclosporine. Please don't change anything on your own. Talk with your transplant team or pharmacist first, since they may want to check your levels.

Here's the thing about cyclosporine: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break it down and keep its level in a safe range. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. When the enzyme works slower, cyclosporine clears out of your body less easily, so its blood level can creep up.

Cyclosporine is an active drug (not a prodrug), so higher levels mean stronger effects and more risk of side effects like kidney strain, high blood pressure, tremor, or headache. Because cyclosporine is a narrow-window medication where small changes matter, please don't add tree turmeric or berberine on your own. Talk with your transplant team or pharmacist first, since they may want to check your levels.

What Is Cyclosporine Used For?

Cyclosporine is prescribed to help prevent the body from rejecting a transplanted kidney, liver, or heart. It is often used alongside other immunosuppressive medicines as part of a full transplant care plan.

It is also used for adults with severe, active rheumatoid arthritis that hasn't responded well enough to methotrexate, and for adults with severe plaque psoriasis who haven't had success with other standard treatments.
