Probiotic G.I. contains six active probiotic ingredients: three species of Lactobacillus (casei, salivarius, and acidophilus), two species of Bifidobacterium (bifidum and animalis lactis), and Streptococcus thermophilus. These are live bacteria intended to support digestive health.
The product also contains inactive ingredients — plant fiber, cellulose, and water — that serve as fillers and the capsule base.

Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bifidobacterium bifidum is rated possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
Streptococcus thermophilus's effectiveness hasn't been established in the data we hold — the evidence for conditions like antibiotic-associated diarrhea and bacterial vaginosis is insufficient to rate. The remaining three ingredients lack effectiveness ratings in our records.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though people with weakened immune systems should be cautious. Streptococcus thermophilus is also generally well tolerated in healthy people, but again, those with compromised immunity should check with their doctor first.
Since these are live organisms, there's a theoretical risk of infection in severely ill or immunocompromised patients — cases of bacteremia and sepsis have been reported, mainly in people with central lines or critical illness. Gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and diarrhea can occur with probiotic use, though they're uncommon.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
