HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic Solutions Prenatal 20 Billion CFUs by GNC Probiotic Solutions
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This prenatal probiotic contains 2 active ingredients: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis, delivering 20 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) per dose. Both are live, beneficial bacteria meant to support digestive and immune health during pregnancy.
The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — maltodextrin, vegetarian capsule shell, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and titanium dioxide — which serve as fillers and binding agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Bifidobacterium lactis is rated Possibly Effective for respiratory tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and constipation based on available evidence. That means some studies suggest a benefit, but more research is needed to be sure.
We could not check effectiveness data for Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, so we can't say what the evidence shows for that ingredient in this product.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Bifidobacterium lactis is generally well tolerated by most healthy people when taken as directed. The most common side effect reported is diarrhea; bloating, flatulence, abdominal pain, and stomach upset have been reported rarely.
In very uncommon cases, probiotics may cause infections in certain people, though this is not well established. Pregnancy and lactation safety data for these ingredients is not on file in our data.
Because you're taking this during pregnancy, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check any antibiotic medications you're using with your doctor or pharmacist. Antibiotic drugs can reduce how well Bifidobacterium lactis works, so separating doses is important.
No other medication interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This prenatal probiotic may help with digestive health and immune support during pregnancy, but the evidence is still limited. The main caution is timing it away from antibiotics — they can reduce its effectiveness.
If you're pregnant, on any medications, or have a weakened immune system, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
