Answer
Hello, and thank you for reaching out to us!
According to our drug-supplement interaction checker, there is no known interaction between bergamot and Eliquis (Bergamot - Apixaban Interaction Details | HelloPharmacist).
Bergamot, a type of citrus fruit, contains various bioactive compounds, including citric acid, limonoids, phenols, and flavonoids such as vicenin-2, naringin, neohesperidin, neoeriocitrin, and rutin.
Bergamot is primarily recognized for its potential cardiovascular benefits, particularly in managing high cholesterol. The flavonoids in bergamot, including naringin, neoeriocitrin, and neohesperidin, are structural analogs of statins (drugs like Lipitor and Zocor). They have been shown to reduce cholesterol biosynthesis, increase cholesterol excretion, and enhance vasodilation.
Additionally, these compounds may reduce triglyceride synthesis in the liver.
Regarding Eliquis, although evidence is limited, current data suggest that bergamot does not significantly affect blood coagulation or interact adversely with medications like Eliquis.
However, as always, I recommend consulting with your doctor before adding any new medication or supplement to your current regimen to ensure appropriate monitoring.
