Interaction Details

There were no interactions found between Oxybutynin and Alkanna. This does not mean the potential for an interaction does not exist, however. There is often a lack of studies and data surrounding traditional medicine, especially concerning drug interactions, so it is important to always consult your provider before making any changes to your medication regimen.

Alkanna Overview

Alkanna Alkanna, a plant native to Europe, the Mediterranean, and Western Asia, is valued for its roots and leaves, which have been used in traditional medicine for centuries. The roots of the alkanna plant are particularly prized for their vibrant red color, which is extracted and used as a natural dye in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fabrics, foods, and alcoholic beverages. Alkanna is sometimes used to help treat burns and wounds, but it's important to note that some alkanna products may contain pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs), which can be hepatotoxic and potentially harmful to the liver. Therefore, use caution with oral products.

Oxybutynin Overview

  • Oxybutynin is used to treat overactive bladder (a condition in which the bladder muscles contract uncontrollably and cause frequent urination, urgent need to urinate, and inability to control urination) in certain adults and children. Oxybutynin is also used as an extended-release tablet to control bladder muscles in adults and children 6 years of age and older with spina bifida (a disability that occurs when the spinal cord does not close properly before birth), or other nervous system conditions that affect the bladder muscles. Oxybutynin is in a class of medications called anticholinergics/antimuscarinics. It works by relaxing the bladder muscles.
