Avoid coadministration of dasatinib and proton pump inhibitors as this may result in decreased dasatinib exposure. Coadministration of dasatinib and omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor) resulted in 43% and 42% decrease in mean dasatinib AUC and Cmax, respectively. Consider the use of antacids in place of the proton pump inhibitor.

A) Following a 40 mg dose of omeprazole (a proton pump inhibitor), the administration of a single 100 mg dose of dasatinib 22 hours later resulted in a 43% and 42% reduction in mean dasatinib AUC and Cmax, respectively .

Dasatinib Overview

  • Dasatinib is used to treat a certain type of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) as a first treatment and in adults who can no longer benefit from other leukemia medications including imatinib (Gleevec) or in those who cannot take these medications because of side effects. Dasatinib is also used to treat a certain type of chronic CML in children 1 year of age or older. Dasatinib is also used to treat a certain type of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL; a type of cancer of the white blood cells) in adults who can no longer benefit from other leukemia medications or who cannot take these medications because of side effects. It is also used in combination with chemotherapy medications to treat a certain type of ALL in children 1 year of age or older.Dasatinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop the spread of cancer cells.

Dexlansoprazole Overview

  • Dexlansoprazole is used to treat the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and possible injury of the esophagus [tube between the throat and stomach]) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is also used to treat esophagitis (swelling that may damage tissues of the esophagus) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Dexlansoprazole is used for the maintenance treatment of esophagitis and healing in adults and children 12 years of age and older. Dexlansoprazole is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
