Lacosamide should be used with caution in patients on concomitant medications that affect cardiac conduction such as calcium channel blockers due to the risk of AV block, bradycardia, and ventricular tachyarrhythmia. Obtain an ECG before beginning lacosamide, and after lacosamide is titrated to steady-state maintenance dose. In addition, closely monitor if lacosamide is administered via the IV route .

Nifedipine Overview

  • Nifedipine is used to treat high blood pressure and to control angina (chest pain). Nifedipine is in a class of medications called calcium-channel blockers. It lowers blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels so the heart does not have to pump as hard. It controls chest pain by increasing the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.

  • High blood pressure is a common condition and when not treated, can cause damage to the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other parts of the body. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.

Lacosamide Overview

  • Lacosamide is used to control partial onset seizures (seizures that involve only one part of the brain) in adults and children 1 month of age and older. Lacosamide is also used in combination with other medications to control primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures (formerly known as a grand mal seizure; seizure that involves the entire body) in adults and children 4 years of age and older. Lacosamide is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
