Interaction Summary
In clinical studies, coadministration of DOXOrubicin and sorafenib resulted in a 21% increase in DOXOrubicin area under the concentration-time curve (AUC). Although the clinical significance of this interaction is not known, caution is advised when these two agents are coadministered . Patients should be monitored for signs of DOXOrubicin toxicity. Although no formal drug interaction studies have been done with DOXOrubicin hydrochloride liposome injection, it may interact with drugs known to interact with the conventional formulation of DOXOrubicin .

How To Manage Interaction
Coadministration of DOXOrubicin and sorafenib has resulted in increased exposure to DOXOrubicin. Although the clinical significance of this interaction is unknown, use caution if DOXOrubicin and sorafenib are administered concurrently. Monitor the patient for DOXOrubicin toxicity (fever, chills, abdominal pain, mucositis).

Sorafenib Overview

Sorafenib is used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC; a type of cancer that begins in the kidneys). Sorafenib is also used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (a type of liver cancer) that cannot be treated with surgery and a certain type of thyroid cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and cannot be treated with radioactive iodine. Sorafenib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of an abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop the spread of cancer cells.
Doxorubicin Overview

Doxorubicin is used in combination with other medications to treat certain types of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, and ovarian cancer; Hodgkin's lymphoma (Hodgkin's disease) and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (cancer that begins in the cells of the immune system); and certain types of leukemia (cancer of the white blood cells), including acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML, ANLL). Doxorubicin is also used alone and in combination with other medications to treat certain types of thyroid cancer and certain types of soft tissue or bone sarcomas (cancer that forms in muscles and bones). It is also used to treat neuroblastoma (a cancer that begins in nerve cells and occurs mainly in children) and Wilms' tumor (a type of kidney cancer that occurs in children). Doxorubicin is in a class of medications called anthracyclines. It works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells in your body.
