About Cinacalcet
What Is Cinacalcet Used For?
Brand name: Sensipar
Cinacalcet tablets are used to treat secondary hyperparathyroidism (overactive parathyroid glands caused by kidney disease) in adult patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are on dialysis. This use applies to cinacalcet tablets, cinacalcet hydrochloride tablets, and Sensipar. Importantly, cinacalcet is not approved for CKD patients who are not on dialysis, due to a higher risk of dangerously low calcium levels.
Cinacalcet tablets are also used to lower high calcium levels (hypercalcemia) in adults with parathyroid carcinoma (a rare cancer of the parathyroid gland), and in adults with primary hyperparathyroidism who need surgery based on their calcium levels but cannot have that surgery.
