Moxibustion + Escitalopram
Escitalopram brand name: Lexapro.
We found no known interaction between Moxibustion and Escitalopram in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Moxibustion and Escitalopram
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Escitalopram and Moxibustion in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Moxibustion alongside specific medications may be limited.
Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Moxibustion at all — not against Escitalopram, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.
Moxibustion is a treatment rather than something you take. Tell whoever provides it which medicines you use, and ask your prescriber whether it is appropriate for your health and treatment. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Moxibustion safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Moxibustion in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
When used during pregnancy. While moxibustion has been used with apparent safety during pregnancy in most clinical studies, some clinical evidence suggests that moxibustion may be associated with premature birth, premature membrane rupture, increased rate of contractions, abdominal pain due to contractions, placental bleeding, reduced or increased fetal movement, and reduced fetal heart rate.

What Escitalopram Is Prescribed For, and What Moxibustion Has Been Studied For
These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Escitalopram is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Moxibustion is a treatment: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.
Escitalopram is prescribed for: Escitalopram treats major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and in adolescents 12 years of age and older. It also treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults. Lexapro (escitalopram) tablets are additionally approved to treat generalized anxiety disorder in pediatric patients 7 years of age and older. Escitalopram Capsules are indicated for MDD and GAD in adults younger than 65 years of age, and for MDD in pediatric patients 12 years and older — the capsule form is not indicated for patients 65 and older.

Depression studied, not established Moxibustion has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows
Moxibustion for depression
It is unclear if moxibustion administration, alone or in combination with acupuncture, is beneficial for depression, including post-stroke depression.
Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Escitalopram on your own; if you are taking Moxibustion for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.
Questions About Moxibustion or Escitalopram
These are real questions from readers, answered by the pharmacists at HelloPharmacist — written by a person, not generated from a database. Each one covers Moxibustion or Escitalopram, not necessarily both, but if one is close to what you were about to ask it will usually go further than a database entry can:

This page covers Moxibustion only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Escitalopram page lists 55 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

Where Moxibustion and Escitalopram Sit Against Everything Else
Out of every supplement and medication people look up on HelloPharmacist, here is where these two land this week — and which way each has been moving.
#885 of 1,452 supplements looked up here in the last 7 days
#13 of 2,830 medications looked up here in the last 7 days
Position among everything looked up on this site, not a measure of how commonly either one is used or how important it is. A supplement can climb this list because of a news story. It counts every request to the page, automated ones included, and nothing here identifies anyone.
Where does our data come from?
- Source: the Natural Medicines (TRC Healthcare) clinical database — the evidence-graded professional reference for herb & supplement interactions.
- Citation library: 103,510 references behind our interaction content, 65,311 of them resolved to verified PubMed/DOI sources. See every Moxibustion reference on this page ↓
- Freshness: we automatically re-check this combination every week — this pair was last verified September 13, 2026. The Moxibustion and Escitalopram records this page draws on were last updated July 11, 2026.
- What “no known interaction” means: no documented interaction in the sources above — not a guarantee of safety. Supplements are studied far less than prescription drugs, so we say exactly what the evidence supports, and nothing more.
About Moxibustion
What is Moxibustion?
- Breech baby positioning
- Joint and muscle pain
- Cold-related conditions in traditional medicine
- Menstrual cramps
- Digestive complaints
- General wellness and energy support
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that burns dried mugwort near or on the skin to warm specific points on the body, not a supplement you swallow. Evidence for most uses is limited or low quality, though it is most studied for turning breech babies. If you are interested, work with a trained, licensed practitioner and talk with your doctor first, especially during pregnancy.
Dried leaves of mugwort (Artemisia species), processed into moxa · Moxa sticks, moxa cones, loose moxa wool, stick-on adhesive moxa, smokeless moxa
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Moxibustion is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Moxibustion record says about it on its own.
Moxibustion: dosing
There is no standardized "dose" for moxibustion the way there is for a supplement. Treatment depends on the practitioner, the body points chosen, and the condition being addressed. Sessions are often repeated over several days or weeks.Because moxibustion involves heat and smoke, it is best done by a trained, licensed acupuncturist or TCM practitioner rather than at home.

Escitalopram Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Escitalopram as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Moxibustion — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
