Theoretically, rice bran arabinoxylan compound might interfere with immunosuppressants by stimulating the immune system. In laboratory and human research, rice bran arabinoxylan compound has been shown to stimulate the activity of immune cells.
Some immunosuppressants include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Here's the idea behind this one. Pomalidomide (Pomalyst) is what we call an immunomodulator, and part of how it works in multiple myeloma and Kaposi's sarcoma is by nudging your immune system in a careful, controlled way. Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound (BioBran, MGN-3) is marketed to stimulate immune cells. On paper, these two could be pulling in slightly different directions, which is why it's flagged as a possible concern.

I want to be honest with you, though: this is a theoretical interaction based on how the supplement behaves in lab and small human studies, not proof of a real problem in people on pomalidomide. We don't have solid evidence that it weakens the drug or causes harm. Still, since you're dealing with a serious cancer therapy, please don't start this supplement without first checking with your oncologist or pharmacist.

What Is Pomalidomide Used For?

Brand name: Pomalyst

Pomalidomide capsules are used in adults with multiple myeloma (a blood cancer affecting plasma cells) who have already tried at least two prior treatments — including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor — and whose disease has continued to progress. It is given in combination with dexamethasone for this use.

Pomalidomide capsules are also used to treat Kaposi sarcoma (KS) — a cancer that can cause lesions on the skin and in internal organs — both in adults with AIDS-related KS after antiretroviral therapy has stopped working, and in adults with KS who are HIV-negative. The KS indication was approved based on response rate; ongoing studies are confirming long-term benefit.
