Sugar Busters Diet and Naltrexone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Naltrexone and Sugar Busters Diet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Sugar Busters Diet alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Sugar Busters Diet at all — not against Naltrexone, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Sugar Busters Diet is an eating pattern rather than something you take. Ask your pharmacist or doctor before changing how you eat while on a prescribed medicine: some medicines are dosed around meals, and a change in diet can change how they work. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Naltrexone. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 40,504 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Naltrexone that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Sugar Busters Diet’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Sugar Busters Diet side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Sugar Busters Diet has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Naltrexone page

“The single biggest risk on this page is to your liver. Naltrexone (Vivitrol, Depade), prescribed for alcohol and opioid dependence, carries its own warnings about liver stress at higher doses, and 38 of the 56 supplements here share that liability, led by Siberian cocklebur, a major-rated entry tied to outright liver failure.”

About Sugar Busters Diet

What is Sugar Busters Diet?

  • Weight loss
  • Blood sugar control
  • Type 2 diabetes management
  • Lowering cholesterol and triglycerides
  • Reducing refined sugar intake

The Sugar Busters Diet is an eating plan, not a herb or supplement. It encourages cutting refined sugar and high-glycemic carbohydrates while focusing on lean proteins, whole grains, vegetables, and healthy fats. It may help some people lose weight and improve blood sugar, but it works mainly because it cuts calories and refined carbs—talk to your doctor or dietitian before starting any new diet.

Books, meal plans, low-glycemic food choices

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Sugar Busters Diet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Sugar Busters Diet record says about it on its own.

Sugar Busters Diet: dosing

There is no "dose" for the Sugar Busters Diet because it is an eating pattern, not a pill. Instead, people follow the plan's guidelines on which foods to choose and which to limit, focusing on low-glycemic, whole foods. The healthiest approach is to aim for balanced meals with vegetables, lean protein, healthy fats, and high-fiber whole grains, while limiting added sugar and refined carbs.

About Naltrexone

What Is Naltrexone Used For?

Brand names: Trexan, Depade, Vivitrol

Naltrexone Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat alcohol dependence and to block the effects of opioids in people with opioid dependence. The extended-release injectable suspension — sold as Vivitrol and also available as a generic injectable — is used to treat alcohol dependence and to prevent relapse to opioid dependence after a person has completed opioid detoxification.

All formulations are meant to be part of a broader treatment plan that includes counseling and other support — naltrexone works best when it is not used alone.
