AHCC Plus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking AHCC Plus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of AHCC Plus by Douglas Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
AHCC Plus contains 5 active ingredients: a proprietary blend (whose components are listed below), larch arabinogalactan, shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes), cyclodextrin, and AHCC (an extract blend). The product also includes inactive ingredients—hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and vegetable stearate—which serve as binders and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Not established
For the conditions we have data on, the evidence is thin. Larch arabinogalactan shows insufficient reliable evidence for common cold and high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia).
Shiitake mushroom appears ineffective for dental plaque, and has insufficient evidence for chemotherapy-related side effects, heart disease (atherosclerosis), and various cancers. The data we hold does not establish that AHCC Plus works for any of these purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Larch arabinogalactan is generally well tolerated as a fiber, though long-term safety data are limited. Some people experience bloating and flatulence.
Safety data for larch arabinogalactan at supplement doses are not robust enough to recommend it without doctor approval. Shiitake mushroom as food is generally well tolerated when cooked, but concentrated supplements lack safety data.
Possible side effects include abdominal discomfort, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Raw shiitake can cause shiitake dermatitis (a distinctive skin rash), and rarely intestinal blockage.
Contact with shiitake can trigger allergic reactions—contact dermatitis, asthma, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, or in workers, a serious lung condition (hypersensitivity pneumonitis) from spore inhalation. Neither ingredient has enough pregnancy and lactation safety data on file to know whether it's appropriate.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking AHCC Plus, check with your pharmacist if you take an immunosuppressant drug (such as cyclosporine, tacrolimus, mycophenolate, or others used after transplant or for autoimmune disease)—Moderate severity concern. Also double-check any medication broken down by the CYP2D6 enzyme, which is a Moderate concern with shiitake.
The interaction checker on this page can help you verify your specific drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
AHCC Plus may be worth a conversation if you're interested in immune support, but it's not for you if you take immunosuppressants or many other prescription drugs. The evidence for what it's claimed to do is not established.
Talk to your pharmacist before you start, especially if you take any medications.

AHCC Plus by Douglas Laboratories Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
AHCC Plus by Douglas Laboratories contains ingredients that interact with medications.
The most serious concern is with immunosuppressant drugs (azathioprine, basiliximab, cyclosporine, daclizumab, muromonab-CD3, mycophenolate, tacrolimus, and others). Both larch arabinogalactan and shiitake mushroom may theoretically interfere with how these drugs work by stimulating your immune system when you need it suppressed—a Moderate severity issue.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Shiitake mushroom also has a second Moderate interaction: it may theoretically decrease blood levels of drugs broken down by the CYP2D6 enzyme pathway, which includes many common medications. This effect hasn't been seen in humans, but it's a theoretical concern worth checking.
We could not check microcrystalline cellulose, carnauba wax, or cyclodextrin—we hold no interaction data for them. Altogether, these interactions span 308 individual medications.
If you take an immunosuppressant, a drug metabolized by CYP2D6, or any other prescription medication, run it through the checker on this page before starting AHCC Plus.
