AbsorbAid Digestive Support is a five-ingredient blend of digestive enzymes: Amylase (breaks down starches), Lipase (breaks down fats), Lactase (breaks down milk sugar), Cellulase (breaks down plant fiber), and Protease (breaks down proteins). Together they're meant to help your body digest food more completely.
The powder also contains rice starch and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence is limited for most of what this blend claims to do. Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — that one's solid.
For the other ingredients and uses (digestive support, inflammatory bowel disease, indigestion), the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to say whether they work. That doesn't mean they don't; it means the research isn't there yet to prove they do.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lipase, Lactase, and Protease are generally well tolerated when used as directed, though digestive upset or allergic reactions are possible with any enzyme product. Lactase can rarely cause contact allergy in people exposed to the powdered form.
Protease exposure has occasionally triggered allergic reactions in occupational settings. If you have a serious digestive condition, check with your doctor before using this product — enzyme supplements should be guided by medical advice in those cases.
For pregnancy: there isn't enough safety data on Lipase and Protease to know either way, so talk with your doctor before using them if you're pregnant. Lactase is likely safe in pregnancy.
For breastfeeding: safety data is limited for both Lipase and Protease; ask your healthcare provider first.
