Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: benfotiamine, a fat-soluble form of thiamine (vitamin B1). It's designed to be absorbed more readily by your body than standard thiamine supplements.

Does it work?

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Benfotiamine's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Benfotiamine for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Diabetic neuropathy — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for benfotiamine is mixed and incomplete in our data. It's rated possibly effective for diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage from diabetes), but possibly ineffective for diabetic nephropathy (kidney disease from diabetes).

For Alzheimer disease, alcohol use disorder, and peripheral neuropathy, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it — the research just isn't there yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Benfotiamine is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety hasn't been fully studied. In one clinical trial of 98 people taking 300–600 mg daily for 6 weeks, a small number reported allergic skin reactions and mild stomach discomfort — at rates no different from placebo.

Safety data during pregnancy and breastfeeding are very limited; if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this supplement.

No known interactions
Known Interaction Concern · database check
No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for benfotiamine. That doesn't mean none could occur — if you take any medications, use the checker on this page or ask your pharmacist before you start.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Benfotiamine may be worth considering if you have diabetic nerve pain and want to explore options beyond prescription treatments — the evidence leans "possibly helpful" for that. The data on other uses is too thin to say.

Because long-term safety isn't fully known and pregnancy/breastfeeding data are sparse, check in with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're in one of those groups.

We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Benfotiamine. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Benfotiamine contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does benfotiamine actually work?
For diabetic nerve pain, the evidence says it's possibly effective — so it may help, but we don't have rock-solid proof. For other uses like Alzheimer disease or general nerve damage, there just isn't enough research to know either way. Talk with your doctor about whether it makes sense for your specific situation.
What side effects might I experience?
In the one clinical trial we have data for, a small number of people reported allergic skin reactions or mild stomach discomfort, but the rates were the same as placebo. Overall, it's generally well tolerated, though long-term safety hasn't been fully studied.

Safety data during pregnancy and breastfeeding are very limited — there just isn't enough information to know either way. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this supplement to discuss what's right for you.
What exactly is benfotiamine?
It's a fat-soluble form of thiamine, also called vitamin B1. Because it dissolves in fat, your body can absorb it more easily than standard thiamine supplements.
Does this powder have any fillers or additives?
No — this product contains benfotiamine only, with no inactive ingredients listed.
