This product contains one active ingredient: betaine anhydrous, a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in protein and fat metabolism. The unflavored powder form is just the betaine itself, with calcium silicate added as an inactive ingredient to prevent caking.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Betaine anhydrous is effective for homocystinuria (a rare genetic disorder causing elevated homocysteine levels). It's possibly effective for hyperhomocysteinemia (elevated homocysteine in the blood).
For nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (fatty liver disease without alcohol use), colorectal adenoma (a type of precancerous polyp), depression, and acid reflux, the evidence we hold is too limited to say whether it works.

Orally, betaine anhydrous is generally well tolerated at studied doses. The most common side effects are body odor, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and gastrointestinal distress.
