Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin your body needs to process carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Each softgel delivers 1,000 micrograms.

The rest of the capsule is made up of inactive ingredients—soybean oil, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, yellow beeswax, and titanium dioxide—that help form and color the softgel.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Biotin's overall clinical evidence instead.

Strong

Strong clinical evidence supports Biotin for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Biotin deficiency — rated "Likely Effective" (Natural Medicines).

Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, a condition where your body doesn't get enough of this B vitamin from food. For other uses—hair loss (alopecia areata), multiple sclerosis, and seborrheic dermatitis (a flaky skin condition)—the evidence is weaker: biotin is possibly ineffective for MS and seborrheic dermatitis, and there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to rate it for alopecia areata.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at higher doses, because your body gets rid of excess through urine. High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea; a couple of people taking 300 mg daily reported transient loose stools.

One isolated case report linked high-dose biotin combined with other supplements to a rare lung and heart lining inflammation, but whether biotin was the cause is unclear and no similar cases have been reported since. The safety data advises checking with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements, especially if you're taking other products.

No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This is a straightforward biotin supplement most useful if you have a documented biotin deficiency or want to rule one out. If you're considering it for hair loss, MS, or a skin condition, talk with your doctor first—the evidence for those uses is limited.

Before you start, have your pharmacist or doctor confirm it won't interfere with anything you're already taking, and mention it if you're also taking other high-dose supplements.

Biotin 1000 mcg by Vitamin World: Common Questions

Does Biotin 1000 mcg by Vitamin World interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Biotin 1000 mcg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Biotin 1000 mcg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is biotin safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
Yes—biotin is rated likely safe during pregnancy and lactation. Amounts from food and prenatal vitamins are fine, but check with your doctor before taking high-dose biotin supplements.
Will biotin help my hair grow or stop hair loss?
The evidence for biotin in alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) is insufficient to rate—we don't have enough reliable studies yet. If that's why you're interested, talk with your doctor about whether a trial makes sense for you.
What does biotin actually do in my body?
Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your body process carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. Your body needs it to function normally, and it's essential if you have a biotin deficiency.
Can I take too much biotin?
Excess biotin is removed through your urine, so it's generally hard to overdose. High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea, and one very rare case report linked very high doses combined with other supplements to inflammation—but check with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements anyway.
Will this help my seborrheic dermatitis or multiple sclerosis?
For seborrheic dermatitis and MS, biotin is rated possibly ineffective based on current evidence. If you have either condition, talk with your doctor about what treatments or supplements might actually help.
