Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This is a straightforward single-ingredient product: biotin, a B vitamin, at 5,000 micrograms per capsule. The other ingredients—rice flour, hypromellose, stearic acid, and silicon dioxide—are inactive fillers and binders that help form and preserve the capsule.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: biotin for normal growth and body function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Biotin deficiency.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Biotin is rated "Likely Effective" for Biotin deficiency (Natural Medicines).

Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, which is rare but can happen in people on certain medications or with specific metabolic conditions. For other uses listed here—multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (a type of skin inflammation), and alopecia areata (patchy hair loss)—the evidence is weaker.

It's possibly ineffective for MS and seborrheic dermatitis, and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for alopecia areata. If you're considering biotin for one of those conditions, talk it over with your doctor to see if it's worth trying.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body removes excess amounts through urine. High-dose biotin has rarely been linked to mild diarrhea; a couple of people taking 300 mg daily reported this.

There's one unusual case report of a woman who developed a rare type of chest inflammation after taking high-dose biotin along with other supplements, but it's unclear whether biotin was the cause. Because this product is high-dose, check with your doctor before starting it—amounts from food and regular prenatal vitamins are fine, but high-dose supplements warrant a conversation.

Biotin is considered likely safe during pregnancy and lactation.

Known Interaction Concern · database check
No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented for the biotin in this product. That doesn't mean interactions can't happen, so if you take any prescription medications, confirm with your pharmacist that adding biotin won't affect them.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

This biotin supplement is straightforward and generally well tolerated, making it an option if you have a documented biotin deficiency or want to try it for hair, skin, or nail support (though the evidence for those uses is mixed). If you're pregnant, nursing, or taking any medications, run it by your own doctor or pharmacist first—especially since this is a high-dose form.

How can one product interact with so many drugs?

Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.

Is 5,000 mcg a high dose?
Yes—this is a high-dose supplement. Amounts from food and regular prenatal vitamins are safe, but high-dose biotin supplements like this one warrant a chat with your doctor before you start, just to be sure it's right for you.
