Biotin Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by SuperiorLabs
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Biotin against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin that your body needs to break down food into energy and maintain healthy skin and hair. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients (rice concentrate and cellulose) as fillers and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency — the condition it's most commonly used to treat. For other uses like multiple sclerosis or seborrheic dermatitis (a scaly skin condition), the evidence suggests it's probably not effective.
For hair loss (alopecia areata), we don't have enough reliable evidence yet to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body just excretes what you don't use in your urine. At very high doses, a small number of people have reported mild diarrhea.
One rare case report linked high-dose biotin to a serious chest and heart inflammation, but it's unclear whether biotin was actually the cause or something else entirely — no similar cases have been reported since. Normal dietary amounts and standard supplement doses are considered likely safe in pregnancy and lactation, but if you're taking or considering a high-dose biotin supplement, talk with your doctor first.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented for biotin in our data. That doesn't mean they're impossible, but based on what we hold, you don't need to cross-check your medications with this ingredient.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This is straightforward: biotin works for biotin deficiency and is well tolerated by most people. If you're taking a normal dose and aren't pregnant (or are but using typical amounts), you're in good shape.
If you're considering a high-dose supplement, especially during pregnancy or while nursing, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.
