Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B7, also known as biotin, at 10,000 micrograms per capsule. The capsule itself is made from bovine gelatin, which is an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency. For other uses—including multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (a scaly skin condition), and alopecia areata (patchy hair loss)—the evidence is either insufficient or suggests it may not help.
Talk with your doctor about what you're hoping to treat and whether biotin makes sense for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body clears excess amounts through the urine. High-dose biotin has rarely been linked to mild diarrhea; one case report described mild diarrhea in patients taking 300 mg daily.
One isolated case report from France described a potential allergic lung reaction (eosinophilic pleuropericarditis) in a woman taking biotin 10 mg along with other supplements and a heart medication, but whether biotin was actually responsible remains unclear, and no similar cases have been reported since. The safety data rates biotin as likely safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, though you should check with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented for biotin in our data. Still, if you're on any medications, it's smart to double-check with your pharmacist before starting this or any supplement.
