Full disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Full

Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product has one active ingredient: biotin, a B vitamin your body needs to process nutrients and keep hair, skin, and nails healthy. The remaining ingredients are inactive — microcrystalline cellulose, dicalcium phosphate, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, magnesium stearate, and silica — which are fillers, binders, and flow agents that give the tablet its form.

Does it work?

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Strong

Clinical evidence supports at least one of this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: healthy hair growth and hair matrix support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Alopecia areata, Biotin deficiency, Brittle nails, hair loss, hair thinning, nail health.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Biotin is rated "Likely Effective" for Biotin deficiency (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Biotin is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Alopecia areata, Brittle nails.

Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency, the condition it's designed to treat. For other uses — multiple sclerosis, seborrheic dermatitis (itchy, flaky scalp), and hair loss (alopecia areata) — the evidence is either possibly ineffective or too thin to rate, so we can't claim it'll help with those.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Biotin is generally well tolerated, even at fairly high doses, because your body flushes what it doesn't use through urine. High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea in a small number of people; one older case report linked very high doses (10 mg) combined with other supplements to a rare inflammatory condition, though it's unclear biotin was the cause.

Amounts from food and normal supplements are fine, but if you're considering a high-dose product, check with your doctor first. Biotin is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

If you have a biotin deficiency or just want to support your hair, skin, and nails with a standard B vitamin, this product is straightforward and well tolerated. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking high-dose biotin for another condition, talk with your doctor first about whether it's right for you.

Biotin Trio by GNC Women's: Common Questions

Does Biotin Trio by GNC Women's interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Biotin Trio. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Biotin Trio contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will biotin help my hair grow or stop it from falling out?
We don't have strong evidence that biotin works for hair loss. The data we hold rates it as having insufficient evidence to say either way, so it might help some people but we can't promise it.
Is biotin safe to take every day?
Yes. Biotin is generally well tolerated at normal supplement doses because your body gets rid of excess through urine. If you're thinking about taking very high doses, though, check with your doctor first.
Can I take this while I'm pregnant or nursing?
Biotin is likely safe in pregnancy and lactation at normal dietary and supplement amounts. If you have questions about your specific dose or situation, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
What's biotin actually for?
Biotin is a B vitamin that helps your body process nutrients. It's likely effective if you have a biotin deficiency. Many people also take it to support hair, skin, and nail health, though the evidence for those uses is weaker.
Are there any side effects?
Biotin is very rarely associated with mild diarrhea at high doses. One older case report linked extremely high doses combined with other supplements to a rare inflammatory condition, but it's not clear biotin caused it, and there have been no similar reports since.
