Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: Caralluma fimbriata, a succulent plant extract supplied at 1200 mg per capsule. The capsule itself is made with cellulose, a common inactive binder.

Caralluma has been studied for its effects on appetite and weight, as well as for anxiety and eating-disorder-related concerns.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Caralluma's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: appetite suppression and weight management.
  • We looked for evidence on: Obesity, overweight, metabolic syndrome, weight loss.
  • The closest evidence on file: Caralluma is rated "Possibly Ineffective" for Obesity (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for caralluma in weight management is mixed. Studies suggest it's possibly ineffective for general obesity.

For anxiety disorders and Prader-Willi syndrome (a rare genetic condition affecting appetite), we don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works. If appetite control or anxiety relief is your goal, talk with your doctor about whether this supplement fits your plan.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Caralluma is generally well tolerated in short-term use. The most common side effects in early studies were gastrointestinal — abdominal bloating, constipation, gas, and stomach inflammation — but these usually settled within the first two weeks and were also seen in people taking placebo.

One trial participant with a history of high blood pressure saw a temporary spike, though it resolved and they continued the extract without recurrence. Long-term safety data aren't established.

The product is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, as the safety information is insufficient to know either way. If you're pregnant, trying to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Caralluma 1200 mg might interest someone looking for natural appetite support, but evidence for weight loss is limited. Side effects are usually mild and short-lived.

Caralluma 1200 mg by iPro Organic Supplements: Common Questions

Does Caralluma 1200 mg by iPro Organic Supplements interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in Caralluma 1200 mg. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Caralluma 1200 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is caralluma, and what's it supposed to do?
Caralluma fimbriata is a succulent plant. It's been studied mainly as an appetite suppressant for weight management, and there's some research looking at its effects on anxiety. The evidence for weight loss is limited — studies suggest it's possibly ineffective — but some people use it anyway.
What side effects should I expect?
Most common are gastrointestinal: bloating, constipation, gas, and stomach inflammation. These typically show up in the first two weeks and usually go away on their own. They showed up in placebo groups too, so they may not all be from caralluma itself.
Is it safe to take long-term?
Short-term safety looks okay in studies, but long-term safety data aren't well established. If you're thinking of using it beyond a few weeks, check with your doctor or pharmacist about what's reasonable for your situation.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety information during pregnancy, so it's best avoided. The same goes for breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, trying to conceive, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.
Does caralluma actually help with weight loss?
Research suggests it's possibly ineffective for general obesity. It hasn't been well studied for other conditions either. If weight loss is your goal, discuss realistic expectations and other options with your doctor.
