What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Cinnamon against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: cinnamon bark extract (from cassia cinnamon). The extract also includes cane alcohol, distilled water, and glycerin as inactive ingredients that help preserve and deliver the active compound.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold for cinnamon doesn't establish that it works for any of the conditions it's often used for — amenorrhea (absent periods), angina (chest pain), common cold, diabetes, diarrhea, or high cholesterol. Each of these carries a rating of insufficient reliable evidence, which means the science isn't settled yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cinnamon is generally well tolerated in food amounts. At supplement doses — especially high doses or long-term use — there's concern about liver damage because of coumarin, a natural compound in the bark.
In clinical trials, people taking cinnamon 360 mg to 12 grams daily for three months did not show significant changes in liver enzymes, but very high doses of coumarin (50–7,000 mg daily from any source) can cause liver injury that reverses when you stop. A rash occurred in one trial participant, and in rare cases, people with a cinnamon allergy have developed skin reactions even from dietary cinnamon.
One person also experienced a low blood sugar seizure (hypoglycemia) during a trial, though it's unclear whether cinnamon caused it.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your diabetes medications (insulin, sulfonylureas, metformin, and others) before starting — cinnamon may lower blood sugar. Also flag any medications that can harm the liver (hepatotoxic drugs) with your pharmacist.
Both interactions are Moderate severity.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Consider cinnamon if you're interested in trying it for general wellness, but understand that we don't yet have strong evidence it works for specific conditions. Be cautious if you take diabetes medications or drugs that strain the liver — check with your pharmacist first.
Avoid high-dose supplement amounts during pregnancy; food amounts are likely fine.

It has documented interactions with two medication types, both Moderate severity.

Cinnamon may lower blood sugar (glucose) levels and could add to the effect of diabetes medications. If you take insulin or other drugs to manage blood sugar, dose adjustments might become necessary — this is something to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Large doses of cinnamon over a long time might stress the liver, especially when combined with medications that are already hard on the liver (hepatotoxic drugs). Cinnamon bark contains coumarin, a compound that can damage liver tissue in high amounts.
Altogether, these interactions span 425 individual medications. Run your exact prescriptions through the medication checker on this page before you begin.

Cinnamon Bark Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, cassia cinnamon may have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Cassia cinnamon may lower blood glucose levels, and have additive effects in patients treated with antidiabetic agents. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Hepatotoxic Drugs
Theoretically, large doses of cassia cinnamon might cause additive effects when used with hepatotoxic drugs.
There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of cassia cinnamon for an extended duration might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which can cause hepatotoxicity in animal models. In humans, very high doses of coumarin from 50-7000 mg/day can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.
