Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.

This product contains one active ingredient: bovine colostrum, a nutrient-rich fluid produced by cows in the first few days after birth. The liquid form contains no inactive fillers or other excipients.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Bovine Colostrum's overall clinical evidence instead.

Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports Bovine Colostrum for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: HIV/AIDS-related diarrhea — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Exercise-induced respiratory infections — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Rotaviral diarrhea — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

The evidence for bovine colostrum is mixed. It's rated possibly effective for diarrhea linked to HIV/AIDS and rotavirus infections, and for preventing respiratory infections in people who exercise heavily.

However, it's rated possibly ineffective for preventing a serious intestinal condition called necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in at-risk newborns. The strength of evidence in each area is not strong, so talk with your doctor about whether this fits your specific situation.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Bovine colostrum is generally well tolerated by most adults. A small number of trial participants reported mild bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and unsettled stomach at rates similar to a whey-based control.

One individual with HIV-related cryptosporidiosis experienced nausea and vomiting. There are also rare reports of elevated liver function tests and low blood cell counts (hematocrit) in HIV patients taking it for diarrhea.

Pregnancy safety data is not well studied — there isn't enough information to know whether it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it if you're pregnant. The same applies during breastfeeding: safety isn't well established, so ask your healthcare provider for personalized advice.

No known interactions
Known Interaction Concern · database check
No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we checked. Still, because this is a milk product, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take it regularly alongside your other medications — especially if you have a history of milk allergy or liver or blood count problems.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Colostrum Gold may be worth considering if you're dealing with HIV-related or rotavirus diarrhea, or if you want to try supporting respiratory health during heavy training — but the evidence is modest. Anyone with a milk or dairy allergy must skip it.

If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have liver or blood cell concerns, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
