What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: dandelion, at 1040 mg per capsule. The formula also includes two inactive ingredients — cellulose and rice bran extract — which serve as a capsule filler and extract carrier.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold doesn't establish that dandelion works for the conditions listed on this product — joint pain, tonsillitis, and postoperative swelling and pain all have insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That doesn't mean it doesn't help; it means the research backing hasn't met the bar we use to confirm benefit.
If you're considering dandelion for one of these reasons, it's worth talking through with your pharmacist or doctor about what the current science actually shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Dandelion is generally well tolerated, but supplement-strength doses are less studied than food-strength amounts. The most common side effects are diarrhea, heartburn, and stomach upset.
Allergic reactions, including rare severe ones (anaphylaxis), are possible — especially if you're sensitive to ragweed, daisies, chrysanthemums, or other plants in the Asteraceae family. Limited safety data exists for breastfeeding, so caution is advised if you're nursing.
If you have a known pollen or plant allergy, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Solaray Dandelion, check your list if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants); potassium-sparing water pills; diabetes medications; lithium; certain antibiotics like ciprofloxacin; or drugs metabolized by your liver's CYP1A2 enzyme — all have documented Moderate interactions with dandelion.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Dandelion might appeal to someone looking for a traditional herbal option, but you'll want to be cautious if you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, lithium, or certain antibiotics — all carry Moderate interaction risk. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your pharmacist first, since the safety data is limited.

Discussion: Native to Greece, dandelion is a perennial meadow herb in the sunflower family. Dandelion's common name is derived from the French "dent de lion," which translates to lion's tooth, a reference to its irregular and jagged shaped leaves. Dandelion is regarded among herbalists for its reputed liver and kidney health benefits.

Dandelion 1040 mg by Solaray Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Solaray's Dandelion 1040 mg has documented interactions with several medication types.
The most serious concern involves blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (anticoagulants/antiplatelets) — dandelion root may increase bruising and bleeding risk because laboratory research suggests it inhibits platelet clumping.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Other Moderate-severity interactions to watch for include potassium-sparing water pills (diuretics), which could raise potassium levels since dandelion itself contains significant potassium; diabetes medications, which could increase low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) risk because dandelion may boost insulin and slow sugar absorption; lithium, where dandelion's diuretic effects might reduce lithium excretion and raise its levels; drugs broken down by CYP1A2 liver enzymes, where dandelion might slow their clearance; certain antibiotics (fluoroquinolones like ciprofloxacin), which dandelion may reduce in the bloodstream; and glucuronidated drugs, where dandelion may speed their elimination.
Altogether, these interactions span 455 individual medications. Before you start dandelion, use the medication checker below to look up your exact prescriptions — especially if you're on blood thinners, diabetes medications, lithium, or antibiotics.

For each ingredient in Dandelion 1040 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Dandelion
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking dandelion root along with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that dandelion root inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion extract may have moderate alpha-glucosidase inhibitor activity and might also increase insulin secretion. Also, in a case report, a 58-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes who was being treated with insulin developed hypoglycemia 2 weeks after beginning to eat salads containing dandelion.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, dandelion might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
Laboratory research suggests that dandelion might inhibit CYP1A2. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, until more is known, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2 in patients taking dandelion.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the clearance of drugs that are UDP-glucuronosyltransferase substrates.
There is some preliminary evidence that dandelion might induce UDP-glucuronosyltransferase, a phase II enzyme.
Lithium
Theoretically, through diuretic effects, dandelion might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that dandelion has diuretic properties. As diuretics can increase serum lithium levels, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when taken with dandelion.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Theoretically, dandelion might increase the risk of hyperkalemia when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics.
Dandelion contains significant amounts of potassium.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, dandelion might lower fluoroquinolone levels.
Animal research shows that dandelion reduces absorption of ciprofloxacin and can lower levels by 73%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.
