General Statements
- Higher-than-normal tissue levels of N-acetyl-glucosamine (NAG) can correct one category of glycan defects. Glycans are molecular "tags" that mark the body's tissues as "self" rather than "foreign." Defects in these tags are thought to result in autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, lupus, and rheumatoid arthritis. Vitamin D3 is another substance that improves glyvan structure; the combination may work synergistically.
