DG Protect Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking DG Protect against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of DG Protect by Ortho Molecular Products
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
DG Protect contains three active ingredients: lactase, endopeptidase, and exopeptidase. Lactase is an enzyme that breaks down lactose, the sugar found in dairy products, and is used to help people who have trouble digesting milk and milk-based foods.
The product also includes a Dairy-Gluten Digestion Blend and two other enzymes (endopeptidase and exopeptidase) intended to support the breakdown of proteins in dairy and gluten. The capsule itself is made from inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide — which are common fillers and capsule materials.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — the condition where people have trouble digesting the milk sugar lactose. For other uses listed in the product facts, the evidence isn't strong enough to rate: there's insufficient reliable evidence to say whether lactase helps with prematurity or colic.
We hold no effectiveness data in our system for the other two enzymes in this product, endopeptidase and exopeptidase, so we can't speak to how well the full formula works for dairy and gluten digestion overall.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactase is generally well tolerated when you use it as directed. One case of allergic reaction — contact dermatitis and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis — was reported in a worker exposed to powdered lactase, confirmed by allergy testing; this is rare but shows that allergy to lactase itself is possible.
During pregnancy, lactase is rated as likely safe, though the data is limited; talk it over with your doctor before using it regularly while pregnant. For breastfeeding, the safety data advises no changes — you can discuss any concerns with your doctor or pharmacist.
We hold no safety information in our files for endopeptidase and exopeptidase.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. However, we hold no interaction data for endopeptidase and exopeptidase, so we cannot rule out interactions with those.
Run your medications through the checker on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
DG Protect may help if you have trouble digesting dairy, since lactase is proven effective for lactose intolerance. If you take regular medications, check them against the interaction tool on this page or ask your pharmacist before you start, because we don't have data on two of the three active ingredients.
A rare allergic reaction to lactase itself has been reported, so stop and call your doctor if you notice any rash or breathing trouble. Talk with your own doctor or pharmacist about whether this product fits your needs.
