Niacin
Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is a water-soluble vitamin found in a variety of foods, including meat, poultry, fish, and fortified grains. It plays a variety of roles in the body, including in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. It is also necessary for the production of energy in the body and in the synthesis of different hormones. Niacin deficiency is rare in developed countries, however, supplementation has been shown to have several positive benefits. For example, it can reduce the risk of diabetic neuropathy (i.e., nerve pain) and has been shown effective for treating some types of high cholesterol (extended-release niacin is used as a prescription drug in the United States for this purpose). There is a multitude of niacin forms available as dietary supplements, including NADH, niacinamide, and nicotinamide riboside, all with different properties.

General Statements |
- HOW IT WORKS: Niacin is a water soluble B Vitamin whose main role is to serve as a precursor for two essential biochemical coenzymes, NAD and NADP. These two cofactors participate in virtually every aspect of energy production and metabolic processes. NAD helps break down carbohydrates, fats, and proteins to produce energy. Niacin is critical for DNA replication and repair. Niacin has also been shown to have beneficial effects on lipid and cholesterol transport, aiding to maintain healthy serum lipid levels that are already within the healthy range. Inositol Hexanicotinate is a stable, non-flushing source of Niacin. This superior source of Niacin works to reduce the common "niacin-flush" associated with high dose Niacin supplements.

Precautions |
- CAUTIONS/INTERACTIONS: The Tolerable Upper Intake Level for all forms of Niacin for adults is 35 mg/day based on flushing as the critical adverse effect. The form of niacin in this product, however, is unlikely to cause a flushing response. High dose Niacin has been associated with liver inflammation. Although some reports suggest that this occurs most commonly with slow-release Niacin, it can occur with any type of Niacin when taken at a daily dose of more than 500 mg (usually 3 g or more). Regular blood tests to evaluate liver function are required when using high-dose Niacin.
- The anti-TB drug Isoniazid may increase one's need for Niacin.
- If you have liver disease, ulcers (past or present), gout, gallbladder disease, or drink alcohol, do not take high-dose Niacin except on medical advice.
- Combining high-dose Niacin with statin drugs should not be attempted except under direct supervision of a physician. Niacin may interfere with the absorption of Tetracycline, so take at different times of the day.
- This bottle contains an Ageless(R) oxygen absorbing packet to ensure fresshness. Do not eat Packet.
