Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product has one active ingredient: soursop (also called graviola), at 500 mg per capsule. The capsule also contains hypromellose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients to hold it together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Graviola's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Healthy cell function.
  • We looked for evidence on: Diabetes.
  • The closest evidence on file: Graviola is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Diabetes (Natural Medicines).

The evidence we hold doesn't support graviola for any condition yet. It's been studied for HPV, headache, insect repellent properties, and male infertility, but the data isn't strong enough to rate it as effective for any of these uses.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work — just that solid evidence isn't established in the sources we have.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Graviola is generally well tolerated in short-term use, but regular consumption raises some caution flags. Lab studies suggest possible nerve toxicity with long-term use, and the most common side effects reported in a clinical trial were nausea and burning pain in the upper abdomen.

Rare but serious concerns include movement disorders and myeloneuropathy (nerve damage) that can resemble Parkinson disease symptoms. One large study in Parkinson patients found that even small amounts of graviola fruit, juice, or tea were linked to worsening motor and thinking symptoms.

Don't use graviola during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the safety data are not adequate to support it, and traditional use has favored avoiding it in both situations.

If you take carbamazepine (Tegretol) for seizures, check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting graviola — it may lower the drug's effectiveness and put you at risk for breakthrough seizures.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Graviola may appeal to you if you're exploring herbal options, but the evidence for what it actually does isn't solid yet. The bigger concern is if you take carbamazepine for seizures — graviola could interfere with it.

Talk to your pharmacist before starting this product, especially if you're on any regular medications, pregnant, or nursing.

Formula

Graviola tree (Annona muricata), also known as soursop, is found in tropical areas of the world. Its leaves have a long history of use by traditional herbalists. More recent scientific studies suggest that Acetogenins, the active constituents of Graviola, can support healthy cell growth and function. Other active compounds found in Graviola leaves have free radical scavenging properties.

How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Graviola 500 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
