Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
youtheory Hair Collagen + Keratin has 3 active ingredients. Biotin is a B vitamin that your body uses to support hair, skin, and nail health.
Hydrolyzed collagen is a broken-down form of collagen protein designed to be absorbed easily and may help support skin elasticity and joint structure. Hydrolyzed keratin is a structural protein found in hair itself, though we hold no safety or effectiveness data on file for this ingredient specifically.
The tablet also contains magnesium stearate and silicon dioxide as inactive ingredients (binders and flow agents).
Does it work?
Not established
Biotin is likely effective for biotin deficiency — a true shortage that's uncommon in people eating a regular diet. For hair and skin health in people without a deficiency, the evidence isn't clear enough yet to rate it.
Biotin has also been studied for multiple sclerosis and seborrheic dermatitis (a dry, flaky scalp condition), but the data suggests it's possibly ineffective for those uses. For alopecia areata (patchy hair loss), there isn't enough reliable evidence to say either way.
Hydrolyzed collagen is possibly effective for aging skin and dry skin — the evidence supports a modest benefit. For muscle strength and athletic performance, it appears possibly ineffective.
We hold no effectiveness data on file for hydrolyzed keratin.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Biotin and hydrolyzed collagen are generally well tolerated. High-dose biotin has rarely caused mild diarrhea; one case report linked very high doses to a rare chest inflammation, though the connection is unclear and no other similar reports exist.
Hydrolyzed collagen may rarely cause nausea, indigestion, diarrhea, or bloating, but these are uncommon. In pregnancy, biotin from food and prenatal vitamins is considered likely safe, though check with your doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
Hydrolyzed collagen is not well studied in pregnancy — the data isn't there to know if it's safe, so talk it over with your doctor first. Safety during breastfeeding is also limited for collagen; discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist before use.
We hold no pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data for hydrolyzed keratin.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
If you're interested in supporting hair and skin health and have no concerns about the ingredients, this product is generally well tolerated. Biotin works best if you have a true biotin deficiency; otherwise, the evidence for hair growth in healthy people isn't established.
If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting to make sure it's a fit for you.
