Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure Holy Basil powder — a single active ingredient with no fillers or other inactive ingredients. Holy basil is an herb traditionally used to support stress resilience and general wellness.
The specific compounds in it that drive its effects aren't fully mapped in the data we hold, but research has focused on its seed oil in particular.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for holy basil isn't established yet in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, headache, respiratory tract infections, dental plaque, or diabetes.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the high-quality studies needed to say so aren't there yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil extract is generally well tolerated short-term in adults, though we don't have strong long-term safety data. The most common side effects from oral use are loose stools and nausea — in one clinical trial, two out of 24 people taking capsules reported these.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. If you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (such as warfarin or aspirin), diabetes medications, or pentobarbital or other sedatives. Holy basil may increase bleeding risk with the first group, raise low blood sugar with the second, and possibly strengthen sedation with the third.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Holy Basil by BulkSupplements.com is a single-ingredient powder that's generally well tolerated short-term, but it does interact with blood thinners, diabetes medications, and possibly sedatives — and the evidence for what it actually does isn't established yet. If you take any of those drug types, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Holy Basil by BulkSupplements.com does interact with medications.
The main concern is with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs — holy basil may increase bleeding risk, though animal studies show this effect more clearly than human data does.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Holy basil may also raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you're taking diabetes medications. Small clinical studies suggest it can lower fasting blood glucose, so if you're on antidiabetes drugs, that effect could add up.
There's also a theoretical interaction with pentobarbital (Nembutal), a barbiturate sedative — animal research hints that holy basil seed oil might strengthen its sedative effects, but we don't have human data to confirm this applies to people or to other sedatives.
Altogether, these interactions span 212 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of yours are affected, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting holy basil if you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or sedatives.

Holy Basil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil can prolong bleeding time, possibly due to inhibition of platelet aggregation. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil increases pentobarbitone-induced sleeping time. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans or if this applies to other barbiturates or sedatives.
