What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: holy basil powder. It's an herb traditionally used to support relaxation and stress response.
There are no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold for holy basil doesn't support claims about generalized anxiety, asthma, headache relief, respiratory infections, dental plaque, or diabetes. For all of these uses, the data on file rates the evidence as insufficient to make a reliable recommendation.
If you're considering holy basil for one of these purposes, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the research supports it for your situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil is generally well tolerated when taken short-term by adults, though long-term safety data of high quality are limited. In small clinical studies, a handful of people taking holy basil extract reported nausea or loose stools.
The safety data advise against using holy basil during pregnancy or while breastfeeding because animal studies raise concerns and human safety hasn't been established.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Holy Basil by BulkSupplements.com interacts with several medication types through its single active ingredient.
The most serious documented interaction is with blood thinners (anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs) at Moderate severity: animal research suggests holy basil seed oil may prolong bleeding time and raise your bleeding risk, though we don't yet know if this happens in people.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Holy basil also carries Moderate-severity interactions with diabetes medications and with pentobarbital (a barbiturate sedative). For diabetes drugs, small studies show holy basil can lower fasting blood sugar levels, which could push your levels too low if you're also taking medication for that.
With pentobarbital specifically, animal data indicate holy basil seed oil might strengthen its sedative effects, though again human evidence is limited and it's unclear if other barbiturates or sedatives behave the same way.
Altogether, these interactions span 212 individual medications. If you take any blood thinner, diabetes medication, or sedative—especially pentobarbital—check your specific drugs with the search tool on this page before starting holy basil.

Holy Basil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil increases pentobarbitone-induced sleeping time. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans or if this applies to other barbiturates or sedatives.
