Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: holy basil powder. Holy basil (also called tulsi) is an herb traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine and has been studied for potential effects on anxiety, inflammation, and blood sugar control.
There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for holy basil isn't established in the data we hold. Our records show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, headache, respiratory tract infections, dental plaque, and diabetes.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the studies so far haven't been robust enough to say one way or the other. If you're considering it for a specific condition, that's worth discussing with your doctor or pharmacist.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil is generally well tolerated in the short term, though long-term safety data in humans are limited. The most common side effects are loose stools and nausea—a small number of trial participants reported these when taking capsules.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because animal studies raised concerns and human safety hasn't been established.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (moderate risk of increased bleeding), diabetes medications (moderate risk of low blood sugar), or pentobarbital or other sedatives (moderate risk of increased drowsiness). No interactions are documented for other drug categories in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Holy basil may be worth considering if you're looking for a traditionally used herbal supplement, but keep in mind the evidence for its effectiveness isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, or sedatives, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting it.
Because long-term safety in humans isn't well studied, this is a conversation worth having with your healthcare provider.

Holy Basil by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Holy Basil by BulkSupplements.com does interact with medications, primarily through effects on bleeding, blood sugar, and sedation.
The most serious documented concern is a moderate-severity interaction with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, and clopidogrel): holy basil seed oil may theoretically increase bleeding risk, though animal studies show it can slow clotting time, it's unclear if this happens in people.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Holy basil may also lower blood sugar when taken with diabetes medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Small clinical trials suggest it can reduce fasting glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients.
Additionally, it could theoretically boost the sedative effects of pentobarbital (a barbiturate), though again, human evidence is limited.
Altogether, these interactions span 212 individual medications. Before you start holy basil, run your exact medications through the search tool on this page—especially if you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or any sedatives.

Holy Basil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil can prolong bleeding time, possibly due to inhibition of platelet aggregation. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil increases pentobarbitone-induced sleeping time. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans or if this applies to other barbiturates or sedatives.
