Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: L-aspartic acid, an amino acid. There are no other active ingredients, and no inactive fillers or binders listed.

Does it work?

Not established
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Aspartic Acid's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: energy production.
  • We looked for evidence on: Fatigue, energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, ATP synthesis.
  • The closest evidence on file: Aspartic Acid is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Fatigue (Natural Medicines).

The evidence doesn't currently support claims about L-aspartic acid for athletic performance, muscle strength, fatigue, or opioid withdrawal. Our data shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these uses.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means the research backing it hasn't been established in the sources we have on file.

How safe is it?

Some data gaps
Safety Information · database check
Some gaps

Safety data exists for these ingredients, but with some important gaps.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 0 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-aspartic acid in food amounts is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety of high-dose supplements hasn't been well studied. The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, since we don't have enough research on supplement doses in those situations.

If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.

No known interactions
Known Interaction Concern · database check
No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for L-aspartic acid. That said, run your medications through the search tool on this page to confirm none of your drugs interact with it.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. No medication interactions are currently documented, and some safety-information gaps remain.

L-Aspartic Acid Powder has no documented interactions with medications, which is a good start. The catch is that evidence for what it's claimed to do — boost athletic performance, reduce fatigue, or build muscle — just isn't established in our data.

Before you buy, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it makes sense for what you're trying to achieve.

Formula

L-Aspartic acid plays a vital role in energy production. It is one of the components necessary to move high-energy NADH molecules from the main body of a cell to its mitochondria, or primary energy-production areas. Once there, the NADH is used to generate ATP, the energy fuel that powers all the cell's activities. Besides helping with energy production, L-Aspartic acid is a major excitatory neurotransmitter.

L-Aspartic Acid Powder by Source Naturals: Common Questions

Does L-Aspartic Acid Powder by Source Naturals interact with any medications?
We do not currently list a known interaction for the mapped ingredients in L-Aspartic Acid Powder. This does not guarantee none exist, so confirm with your pharmacist.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
L-Aspartic Acid Powder contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this while pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advises against it. There isn't enough research on supplement doses of L-aspartic acid during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Does this really help with athletic performance or muscle strength?
The evidence we have on file doesn't support either claim — we rate both as insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That means the research backing these uses hasn't been established yet.
What is L-aspartic acid, anyway?
It's an amino acid — one of the building blocks your body uses to make protein. Your body makes it naturally, and it's also found in food.
Is this safe to take long-term?
L-aspartic acid in food amounts is generally well tolerated, but long-term safety of high-dose supplements hasn't been well studied. If you're thinking about taking it regularly, check in with your doctor or pharmacist first.
