What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: L-methionine, an amino acid your body uses to make proteins and other compounds. The capsule itself is made from bovine gelatin.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for L-methionine is mixed and mostly thin. It's rated possibly effective for reducing the risk of neural tube birth defects.
For acetaminophen poisoning, hay fever, asthma, colorectal cancer, and other conditions listed, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it either way — meaning we don't have enough reliable data to know whether it works for those purposes.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Methionine from food is generally well tolerated. Supplement doses are a different story: the data shows it's usually okay in amounts people commonly eat, but high-dose supplements may cause side effects and need medical guidance.
Common side effects can include dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, irritability, headache, and vomiting. Rare serious effects include brain swelling and liver-related brain damage.
High-dose methionine can also raise homocysteine levels in your blood — a risk factor for vascular disease — though one study in people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease found no increase. The safety of supplement doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been well studied, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this if you're pregnant or nursing.

The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
L-methionine may be worth considering if you're looking for a neural tube defect preventive and your doctor recommends it — though it's typically used alongside folic acid and other B vitamins for that purpose. Because high-dose supplementation carries risks like low blood pressure and raised homocysteine levels, this is one to discuss with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have heart disease, diabetes, or take any medications.
