What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains two active ingredients: pygeum extract and maca extract. Pygeum comes from the bark of an African plum tree and has been used traditionally for prostate health.
Maca is a root from the Andes that's been used as both a food and supplement. The capsules also contain inactive ingredients — gelatin, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica — which help form and stabilize the capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Pygeum extract is likely effective for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), which is enlargement of the prostate gland that can affect urination in older men. For other conditions — including sexual desire, Alzheimer disease, and psychosis — the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it.
Maca extract has been studied for several uses, including sexual function, athletic performance, and bone health, but the evidence we hold rates it insufficient for any of them. Neither ingredient has established effectiveness for the other conditions listed in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both pygeum and maca are generally well tolerated as short-term supplements, though long-term safety data are limited. Pygeum has been linked to nausea and abdominal pain in some trials, but those rates were similar to placebo.
Maca may cause stomach pain if consumed fresh and uncooked, though the supplement form used here should carry less risk. Pygeum is used specifically for men's prostate health and should not be used in pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Maca also lacks sufficient safety data in supplement amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using either ingredient if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
No known interactions
No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. Even so, if you take any regular medications — especially blood thinners or anything for sexual function — it's worth confirming with your pharmacist or doctor that this product won't interfere before you start.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.
Maca Plus Pygeum may be worth considering if you're a man looking to support prostate health, since pygeum is likely effective for BPH. Because long-term safety data are limited for both ingredients, it's best as a shorter-term option.
