What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: Marshmallow Root Glycerite Liquid Extract. Glycerin is the inactive ingredient that carries and preserves the extract.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence isn't established in the data we hold for any of marshmallow root's traditional uses—among them vaginal yeast infections, diarrhea, leg ulcers, eczema, and respiratory infections. All of these show insufficient reliable evidence to rate.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Marshmallow root is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited. The safety data advises against using it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so if either applies to you, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium—marshmallow may raise its levels. Also mention all other oral medications you're on, since marshmallow can slow their absorption.
If you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, confirm it's okay first.
The bottom line

Marshmallow Root by TerraVita Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
TerraVita Marshmallow Root is a single-ingredient liquid extract that interacts with two medication types.
The most serious interaction is with lithium (a mood stabilizer): marshmallow's diuretic properties may reduce how your body clears lithium, potentially raising it to toxic levels, so your lithium dose might need adjustment if you're using both.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Marshmallow also has a minor interaction with all oral medications. Its mucilage content can slow down how your body absorbs drugs you take by mouth.
To avoid this, take marshmallow 30 to 60 minutes after any other oral medication.
Animal research suggests marshmallow flower may have blood-thinning effects, though the root (which is what's in this product) is less likely to cause this. Still, if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, mention this product to your doctor or pharmacist.
Additionally, check your exact medications below to see if any could be affected.

For each ingredient in Marshmallow Root with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Marshmallow Root Glycerite Liquid Extract
Lithium
Theoretically, due to potential diuretic effects, marshmallow might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties. To avoid lithium toxicity, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when used with marshmallow.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, marshmallow flower might have antiplatelet effects.
Animal research suggests that marshmallow flower extract has antiplatelet effects. However, the root and leaf of marshmallow, not the flower, are the plant parts most commonly found in dietary supplements. Theoretically, use of marshmallow flower with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs can have additive effects, and might increase the risk for bleeding in some patients.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, mucilage in marshmallow might impair absorption of oral drugs.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
