Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: perilla aerial part extract, which comes from the above-ground parts of the perilla plant. There are no inactive ingredients listed.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Perilla product and its label doesn't state a use — see Perilla's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for perilla extract isn't established yet. It's been studied for age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, asthma, osteoporosis, cancer, and headache, but the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of those uses.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work — it means more rigorous research is needed before we can say one way or the other.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Perilla is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement-strength products haven't been studied much, so caution is warranted. The most common side effect when applied to skin is dermatitis.

Orally, anaphylaxis (a severe allergic reaction) has been reported rarely, particularly in people who consumed perilla seeds — research suggests a compound called oleosin may be responsible for allergies in susceptible people. Breathing in smoke from roasted perilla seeds has also triggered occupational asthma in some cases.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data. The safety notes advise against medicinal amounts of perilla in both situations.

If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.

No known interactions

No medication interactions are currently documented for the matched ingredients — that isn't a guarantee none exist.

Why this rating?
  • None of the 1 matched ingredient has a documented medication interaction on file.

No interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check. That said, we have no tested interaction data for perilla extract and medications.

Before you add it to your routine, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page, and confirm with your doctor or pharmacist that it's right for you.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. No medication interactions are currently documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Perilla extract is generally well tolerated, but it's not well studied at supplement strength, and there's no established evidence for the conditions it's been investigated for. If you have a history of allergies — especially to perilla seeds — or asthma, be extra careful.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a serious allergy history.
